Deep Politics IIIPeter Dale Scott's new writings
Many of Peter Dale Scott's books on the JFK assassination and other topics are listed in the sidebar to the right. Among them is the little-known Deep Politics II, which is the first book to place more than passing attention on the mystery of Oswald's purported trip to Mexico City in the fall of 1963. Dr. Scott is at work on another assassination book, tentatively entitled Deep Politics III. It contains revised and extended chapters from Deep Politics II, as well as lengthy new material which shines further needed light on some of the darker corners of this period in history. Peter
Dale Scott is often called the "dean" of JFK assassination
research, having engaged in scholarly research and writings on the topic
for three decades. His landmark Deep Politics and the Death of JFK
goes beyond Dealey Plaza and focuses instead on the "deep politics"
of the assassination and the Kennedy era. Dr. Scott excels at putting
the assassination into the larger and too-often obscured political context,
tracing the hidden political connections between relevant figures in
the case, and dissecting motives for coverup. An early critic of the
Vietnam war, Dr. Scott was the first to show how subtle changes in Vietnam
policy in the early days of the Johnson administration paved the way
for the later expansion of the war.

Scott, 1993, University of California Press. A landmark work which explores
the deeper political and societal landscape in which the assassination
took place,and probes the suppressed secrets about both Lee Oswald and
Jack Ruby. 
Deep
Politics II: Essays on Oswald, Cuba, and Mexico by
Peter Dale Scott, 1995, JFK Lancer Productions and Publications. More
exploration of the "deep political" landscape. Several chapters
give particular focus on Oswald's trip to Mexico City and the stories
of Communist conspiracy which emanated from there.
Crime
and Cover-Up by Peter Dale Scott, 1977, Open
Archive Press. This short work dissects the Schweiker-Hart Report and
other post-Watergate revelations of the supposed Castro connection to
the JFK assassination.
The
War Conspiracy by Peter Dale Scott, 1972, Bobbs-Merrill.
Traces the covert side of the war in Vietnam and the escalatory pressures
it created at key junctions. One of the earlier works to question the
second Tonkin Gulf incident, which it is now widely conceded never occurred.
The
Politics of Escalation in Vietnam by Franz
Schurmann, Peter Dale Scott, and Reginald Zelnik, 1966, Fawcett. This
early work highlights the correlations between each peace opening
and a corresponding escalatory action on the part of the U.S.
Cocaine
Politics: Drugs, Armies, and the CIA in Central America by
Peter Dale Scott and Jonathan Marshall, 1991, University of California
Press. Discusses the Kerry Report and the body of evidence that the
CIA dealt with and protected drug traffickers in Central America, finally
admitted by the CIA in 1998 in an Inspector General's Report.
The
Iran Contra Connection: Secret Teams and Covert Operations in the Reagan
Era by Jonathan Marshall, Peter Dale Scott,
and Jane Hunter, 1987, South End Press. This book goes beyond coverage
of the illegal arms sales to Iran and the diversion of profits to the
Contras, putting that effort into the context of a long history of U.S.
covert activity.
Coming
to Jakarta: a poem about terror by Peter Dale
Scott, 1988, New Directions Books. A collage which juxtaposes revelations
of public violence and exploitation, most notably the horrible slaughter
in Indonesia in 1965, against personal recollections of growing up
along people who fashion and run such a world.
Minding
the Darkness by Peter Dale Scott, 2000, New
Directions Books. The final volume of a trilogy begun by Coming
To Jakarta and continuing with Listening to the Candle.
This poem again juxtaposes the personal and the political, with riveting
personal stories of loss and searching set against Scott's deep mastery
of political history and its dark and too-often unacknowledged corners.
